Art Scholarship Conditions

1. (Anglo Coal) Callide Management Pty Ltd will provide a $1,000 Art Scholarship to the winning artist to attend a recognised School of Art to work in their chosen medium. The venue is to be agreed between the winning artist and Callide Mine.
2. Nominations restricted to residents of the Banana Shire who are aged eighteen years or over on day of judging.
3. As part of the entry criteria, artists will be required to submit a brief overview of their personal background. In particular details of their involvement in their chosen field of art, their successes, ambitions, etc (no more than one A4 page).
4. The criteria for selection will not necessarily be the work which is considered "best". Favourable consideration will be given to an artist who displays a sufficient ability to benefit from attending an intensive course at a recognised School of Art.
5. Works of art can include all forms of visual art, including fibre, sculpture, pottery, silver-smithing, painting, mixed media, photography, etc.
6. The award may be selected on the basis of one or a combination of submitted pieces.
7. Contestants will sign a nomination form indicating their willingness to accept all conditions of entry.
8. The judge will view all eligible work submitted.
9. The award recipient must take up the scholarship within one year of the announcement of the winner.
10. A runner up will be selected and the name held by the Biloela branch of the Arts Council. In the event that the award recipient does not take up the scholarship within one year, the runner up will be notified and must take up the scholarship within one year of notification.
11. If the judge does not award a scholarship, an encouragement award/s will be considered in lieu of the scholarship award.
12. The winning piece of work will be displayed at the Biloela Civic Centre for a period of six months, irrespective of ownership. At the end of this period, the work will be returned to the owner.
13. Upon completion of the scholarship, the winning artist shall:
(i) Submit a short written report on their experiences to (Anglo Coal) Callide Management Pty Ltd.
(ii) Donate a piece of work (completed during time at school) to the Banana Shire Art Gallery Association Inc..
14. The winner of the scholarship will not be eligible for consideration for two successive competitions following the year of winning (eg the winner of the 2006 competition will not be eligible for consideration until 2009).
15. The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered in to.
