On the 6th, 7th, and 8th of October 2005, the fourth, most successful to date Biloela Comedy & Food Festival was held. Over the three day period approximately 2,000 people participated, laughed a lot, and were entertained, fed, and educated. The aim of the Festival is to: * promote awareness of locally grown produce of the Callide and Dawson Valleys, eg herbs, squab, red claw crayfish, beef, and pork * promote using the produce within a cooking context * encourage the community to have a laugh and to enjoy great cuisine in a friendly and enjoyable setting * provide unique experiences for our youth, and particularly for the elderly * draw people from our local communities and from further afield, to promote Biloela as a 'great place to live'. This year, the Comedy & Food Festival delivered cuisine demonstrations by local and imported chefs to the public, and to budding students. Drama and Hospitality students were able to access the experiences of the chef and comedian at four hour workshops held at the Biloela High School. Students were again very much a part of the development of the menu, and gained the experience of serving the 350 people seated at the Theatre Restaurant on the Saturday night. The over 55's were also catered to during the Bilo Bake Off, a baking competition judged by our celebrity chef, Kim Chilcott, at Wahroonga. This year saw the launch of the inaugural, and very successful, Bilo Beerfest, the Biloela Comedy & Food Festival Procession, and the Markets in the Park. We will focus on building on our 2005 successes, for the 2006 Biloela Comedy & Food Festival. Our local Service Clubs and also individuals have already clearly indicated their support for our fifth Festival in October 2006.
