All
Queenslanders can take advantage of the State Government's
Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme, since November 2006.
Rebates
are available on the purchase of rainwater tanks, washing
machines and other water-saving devices, since 16 August.
Residents with proof of purchase on that date or later
are eligible to apply for a rebate.
Residents
are urged to contact the Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme hotline
on 1800 243 585.
Lifestyle WaterWise
program.
Queensland sporting clubs, P&Cs, churches and community
childcare, kindergartens and preschools will be able to
access grants of up to $30,000 towards improving
watering systems for parks, gardens or sporting fields.
There would be two levels of Lifestyle WaterWise
grants - up to $30,000 and between $3,000 and $10,000 for
organisations seeking smaller grants.
Projects should fall under four categories:
1. Improving sportsground or park watering systems;
2. Replacing existing water-use devices (eg. single-flush
toilets);
3. Providing alternative water sources; and
4. Installing swimming pool covers and rollers.
Lifestyle WaterWise application forms are available at
www.nrw.qld.gov.au or by calling 1800 243 585.
Applications are prioritised to assist organisations in
greatest need and clubs in the worst drought-stricken areas
are given priority for this funding, and applicants will be
asked to provide details on the volume of patronage and
water usage.
In
the kitchen, make sure the dishwasher is full before running,
and rinse dishes in a sink of water, rather than under a running
tap.
Collect the water used for
rinsing fruit and vegetables, and re-use it to
water house plants.
Avoid rinsing dishes before
putting them in the dishwasher.
Put food colouring in your toilet
tank. If it seeps into the toilet bowl, you have a leak.
Turn off the water while you
brush your teeth. In a family of four, this will save an average
of 94 litres per week.
Check for leaks in garden hoses
and fittings, and repair or replace any
leaky equipment.
