Volunteering!

"...People volunteer for many reasons and in many different ways. There is a great deal of satisfaction that comes from making a difference. You can experience working for causes that you are interested in, or assist in creating change in areas that are important to you. You can build new skills, meet new people and add variety to your work experience..."  From:  http://www.govolunteer.com.au/

THE BRASS PLAQUE PROJECT-

RECORD YOUR FAMILY NAME
ON THE PEOPLE’S
PROMENADE
IN KARIBOE STREET, BILOELA

Plaque: "Ian and Di McCauley. Di was Biloela's State Member of Parliament from 1986 to 1997. Ian was employed at Callide Coalfields from 1975 to 1992. (General Manager 1979 to 1992) Proudly calling Biloela home.

Biloela Retail and Service Suppliers Inc., undertook a special project to offer to  residents of Biloela and the Callide Valley, the opportunity to record for posterity, your family name on the People’s Promenade of Kariboe Street.

Taking up this unique opportunity will ensure that your contribution will be there for all to see. I imagine that in 20, 30, 40 years time, your children, grand-children and great grand children will proudly point out your name, and remember your contribution to our very special way of life.

The garden beds have been planted with Leopard trees, famous for their shade and suitability in urban areas.  Low shrubs are providing colour and ground cover in the beds.  The choice of trees and gardens was a deliberate one in reclaiming the street from a hot and uninviting cauldron during summer and a bare and uninteresting space in winter, to creating a space alive with movement, colour and shade.

The brass plaque will be engraved with your family name, and the year that you became associated with Biloela, or took up residency in the Callide Valley.  The plaque will be placed in the footpath either close to a garden bed which will be paid for by your contribution, or opposite a carpark, and you may choose the wording subject to available space on the plaque.

Your financial contribution will fulfill the funding grant’s community contribution, required by Regional Living Infrastructure Programme, a Federal Government initiative, which provided the bulk of the funding to allow this three year dream of the beautification of Kariboe Street to become a reality.

It is our deep desire that this contribution be kept for the recognition of residents who may not have been pioneers, but have resided here, and been a proud part of the growth and development of our lovely town, and the Callide Valley.

Take this opportunity to be part of a lasting tribute to so many people who have a genuine love of our town, and our unique way of life!

HOW YOU MAY CONTRIBUTE

The cost of installing the tree, shrubs and garden bed and placing a plaque on a garden bed has been apportioned as:

Western side of Kariboe Street Full Garden bed (2 sites left) - $1000.00 (GST Incl.)

Western side of Kariboe Street – Half Share of Garden Bed - $500.00 (GST Incl.)

Eastern Side of Kariboe Street Half Garden Bed -$ 500 (GST Incl.)
